How Does Smilelign Work?
Every smile is unique, so every Smilelign journey is tailored accordingly. After a full smile assessment, we’ll create a treatment plan mapping out every slight tooth movement in stages.
Your bespoke Smilelign aligner uses constant gentle pressure to move your teeth slowly. During your treatment, you’ll change your aligner at each stage. Each treatment step moves your teeth a fraction of a millimetre. While it doesn’t sound like much, this creates a noticeable change over time.
Smilelign aligners are removable, so you can live your life without adjusting to a fixed appliance.
What Can Smilelign Treat?
We use Smilelign to treat several mild to moderate orthodontic problems, including:
- Crowding – Where your teeth overlap, they can become crooked
- Gaps – Spaces between your teeth, particularly at the front of your smile
- Overjet – Protruding upper teeth which can affect the proportion of your smile
- Overbite – Where your upper front teeth overlap your lower teeth
- Open Bite – Your upper and lower teeth don’t meet when your mouth is closed
- Midline Discrepancies – When the centre of your upper and lower front teeth don’t line up

Smilelign treatment lengths vary based on your specific needs; however, most cases see exceptional results in six months to a year.
A HEALTHIER SMILE
Aligning your smile doesn’t just make it look great; it also improves oral health. Overcrowded and gappy smiles are both challenging to clean, and bacteria can build up in the parts of your mouth where your toothbrush won’t go. A straighter smile makes brushing and flossing easy.
NO ADJUSTMENTS
Unlike fixed braces, Smilelign aligners don’t need adjustments. Instead, we’ll swap your aligner at regular intervals throughout your treatment.
SIMPLE AND CONVENIENT
Because Smilelign is removable, you can eat and brush your teeth without your aligner getting in the way. Cleaning your aligner is also easy too.
COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE
Smilelign is made from a comfortable plastic that feels good against your teeth and mouth. Although you’ll notice the pressure it creates initially, you’ll soon get used to wearing your aligner. After a few days, you may even start forgetting you’re wearing it.
The Smilelign Process
The Smilelign process is simple; however, we’re always on hand to help you.
PLAN
We’ll begin by assessing your smile and discussing the treatment and what you hope to get from it. This assessment ensures Smilelign is right for you.
Using the latest technology, we’ll create a complete treatment plan for the lab to create your aligners.
At this stage, we’ll give you a pre-aligner to try so you can see how you feel about wearing Smilelign before getting started.

TREAT
Once your first aligners are ready, you can start treatment. You must wear your aligner as much as possible to get the expected results. Aim to wear your aligner for at least 22 hours each day. This might sound a lot; however, Smilelign is so comfortable you’ll stop noticing it after a few days of wear.
Each aligner moves your teeth a small amount. After two weeks or wear, your teeth should have reached the next stage, so it’s time to swap aligners.
We’ll check your progress periodically to ensure you’re on track for smile success.

SMILE
After you’ve worn your final aligner for around two weeks, your new smile is complete. You’ll need to wear a retainer to maintain the results you’ve achieved.
