Smile-Saving Cavity Protection

Tooth decay penetrates the surface of your teeth, leaving cavities. This damage can cause toothache and bad breath, leaving you open to dental infection.

Fillings are simple restorations that prevent more significant issues later. Tooth decay can affect you at any age, and whenever a cavity forms, you’ll need a filling.

At The Dental Suite, we use high-quality tooth-coloured fillings designed to last.

Why Do I Need a Filling?

There are several symptoms of tooth decay. You will need a filling if you have sensitivity to hot or cold food and drink, persistent toothache, or acute pain while biting or chewing.

While injuring a tooth may mean you need a filling, tooth decay is the most common reason for this type of repair. Tooth decay occurs through acid erosion.

There are countless bacteria inside your mouth. Many are harmless or even helpful. But some feed on sugar and starch in your diet. When they feed, bacteria produce acid. As bacteria, food debris, and saliva combine, they create a sticky plaque coating.

Plaque is easily removed through regular brushing. If left on your teeth, the acid erodes your dental enamel and cavities form.

If you grind your teeth, it can wear your enamel down. This may also damage your teeth and require repair using a filling.

The Benefits of Fillings

The fillings we use at The Dental Suite have several benefits.

PERFECTLY SUBTLE

Once in place, nobody will see your filling. We use a resin that matches the natural colour of your teeth so they’ll blend seamlessly into your smile.

MADE TO LAST

We use high-quality materials and clinically proven techniques, meaning your fillings will last many years. And, if your filling ever needs repairing, the process is simple.

EXCEPTIONAL PROTECTION

Fillings provide a strong barrier that protects your compromised teeth from harmful bacteria. A filling will prevent dental infections.

The Filling Process

After assessing the affected tooth, we’ll use a local anaesthetic to ensure maximum comfort during your treatment. Before placing the filling, we’ll remove the decayed portion of your tooth. Next, we’ll shape, clean, and dry the tooth.

Once prepped, we’ll fill the cavity with a discreet, tooth-coloured resin before smoothing the filling so your teeth sit correctly when your mouth is closed.

Recovery is brief following treatment. Your mouth may feel numb for a while after you leave. During this time, avoid chewing and don’t drink hot beverages. After the anaesthetic wears off, chew meals on the opposite side of your mouth for the rest of the day.

Some sensitivity is normal for a few days after treatment. You can manage these symptoms with ordinary painkillers.

How to Avoid Tooth Decay

Although tooth-coloured fillings prevent further damage and infection, avoiding decay is always essential. You can minimise the chance of needing fillings by:

  • Brushing your teeth thoroughly twice daily
  • Using an interdental brush between teeth
  • Choosing a high-fluoride toothpaste
  • Replacing your toothbrush often
  • Reducing the amount of sugar you consume
  • Coming to see us for checkups
  • Making appointments with our hygienist

I was referred to The Dental Suite, Loughborough, by my regular dentist for implant treatment to replace a bridge and a loose tooth supporting it. I have been impressed by the professional and friendly service provided and by the surgeon’s care in ensuring that I understand the process, benefits and potential risks of implant surgery. All aspects of the treatment so far have been exemplary!
