Sometimes referred to as a gum lift, gingival sculpting, or gingivoplasty, gum contouring uses the latest techniques to improve the appearance of your gums. At The Dental Suite, we offer two highly effective treatments to reshape your gum line.
LASER GUM CONTOURING
The laser gum contouring procedure directs a laser at the gum tissue to reshape, re-contour and re-seal tissue.
Using this technique, we can also close potentially dangerous pockets between tooth and gum caused by periodontitis.
Laser contouring is quicker and more comfortable than surgical options, with a shorter recovery time.
SURGICAL GUM CONTOURING
Instead of lasers, surgical gum contouring uses a traditional scalpel instead of lasers. Gums are re-sealed using specialist dental sutures.
The Gum Contouring Process
We’ll begin by assessing the health of your gums and teeth. This helps us determine if gum contouring is necessary. If you have gum disease, we’ll usually explore other treatments first.
A gum contour procedure is typically performed in a single appointment lasting around one hour. Before we begin, we’ll provide a local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort.
We’ll then remove any excess gum using a scalpel or soft tissue laser. By removing and contouring the gum line, we’ll reveal more of the surfaces of your teeth.
After we’ve removed the gum tissue, we’ll use sutures to seal the treatment site.
Over the next couple of days, your gums may feel sensitive. During this recovery phase, rinse your mouth with warm salt water and maintain your usual oral hygiene routine using a gentle brushing style.
