Say Goodbye to Dental Infection

Toothache is never convenient—but ignoring it won’t make it disappear. Your dental pain may be a symptom of a dental infection. When bacteria penetrate your teeth through a cavity or a crack, your tooth will become infected. Prompt treatment is essential.

Once the bacteria reach the living tissue and nerve endings that make up the “dental pulp” at your tooth’s core, the inflammation causes excruciating pain. Without a root canal treatment, your tooth will die, and your infection will spread.

Root canal treatments, or endodontic procedures, remove the infected matter from your tooth. We use the most effective, clinically proven techniques and technology to deliver exceptional results with maximum comfort. Once we’ve cleared the bacteria, the pain will stop.

The Symptoms of Root Canal Infections

Toothaches may indicate tooth decay, or they could mean you have a dental infection. The other symptoms to look for include

  • Pain and sensitivity while eating
  • Swollen gums
  • Sensitivity in your teeth to extreme temperatures
  • Grey or black teeth
  • Swelling in your face

Dental infections won’t go away on their own. If you have these symptoms, book an appointment promptly.

Without treatment, you may develop an abscess; the infection can also spread within your mouth or enter your blood and cause sepsis.

Root Canal Explained

Wondering what’s involved with root canal treatment? Here’s what to expect..

Understanding Root Canal Treatments

Your comfort is our priority throughout your root canal.

We’ll start by taking X-rays during the assessment phase, which we’ll use as a reference during the procedure. After a full assessment of the infected tooth, we’ll discuss how we’ll remove the infection and answer your questions.

When we’re ready to begin, we’ll give you an anaesthetic to ensure a pain-free experience.

Once the anaesthetic starts working, we can remove the infection and sanitise your tooth. Next, we’ll use a latex-like material called gutta percha from a Malaysian plant to fill the inside of your tooth. Finally, we’ll close your tooth with a filling.

We often suggest having a crown at a later date. Crowns restore the tooth’s appearance while protecting it from further infection or damage.

Your anaesthetic may take a while to wear off. Until then, don’t drive, and avoid hot drinks and chewing. After the procedure, the pain from your infection will go; however, it’s common to experience some sensitivity immediately after. Mild painkillers can help. Occasionally, we may need to prescribe antibiotics to remove residual infection after a root canal.

Root Canal Treatment Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Root Canal Treatment?

This procedure involves the removal of the infected nerve and bacteria from the tooth. You’ll need a root canal treatment if your tooth’s nerves and living tissue become infected through decay or injury.

Why is Root Canal Treatment Needed?

Sometimes the pulp becomes infected, and the infection may spread through the Root canal system of the tooth. Eventually, this can cause an abscess. Without treatment, the infection would spread.

Is Root Canal Treatment Painful?

We use local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel any pain during the procedure. For a day after treatment, you may experience slight discomfort, which you can treat using painkillers.
