Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Inman Aligner New?
Inman Aligners were introduced in the UK around 15 years ago. Every month, hundreds of new patients are prescribed treatment with Inman Aligners.
Is the Inman Aligner Comparable to Invisalign?
Invisalign is made of a specialised plastic which creates gentle forces. The Inman Aligner uses tiny Nickel Titanium springs to maintain a higher constant tension. We can treat your top and bottom front teeth; however, it’s unsuitable for treating your back teeth or fixing complex orthodontic problems.
Invisalign can treat full arches. When the back teeth need treatment, we use a pre-treatment to expand the arches and follow with the Inman Aligner. The treatment time is usually shorter than clear braces.
Is the Inman Aligner Uncomfortable?
No. Due to the gentle but steady orthodontic forces generated, Inman Aligners are comfortable. However, we suggest you use a mild painkiller such as ibuprofen or paracetamol for the first few days of treatment if you encounter any discomfort.
Will the Inman Aligner Affect My Speech?
The Inman Aligner may affect your speech for a week or two. However, you will get used to your aligner over time, and your speech will return to normal.
Like anything foreign to your mouth, it may cause you to salivate a little more than usual at first.
How Does it Work?
The Inman Aligner uses lingual coil springs that put pressure behind your teeth and a wire across the front that pushes in the opposite direction. These components work in unison to “squeeze” teeth together by pushing and pulling them into alignment.
You can remove your aligner; however, the longer you wear it, the quicker you’ll see results. We recommend you wear the appliance for at least 16-20 hours daily.
Won’t My Teeth Move Back?
With any orthodontic treatment, once you’ve achieved your desired result, retention is essential. You can use a fixed bonded retainer or a clear night-time removable retainer.
