If you’re unhappy with the position of your teeth, you may have already decided that a teeth straightening treatment is needed. However, there are various ways to improve your smile, and choosing a treatment can seem challenging.

At Dental Suite, we offer several very different teeth straightening treatments. Each treatment brings its own set of benefits, and while some straightening methods offer universal benefits, others are better for helping with specific problems.

Although our knowledgeable team is always here to help you make the right decision, it can help you to do some reading into the options ahead of your initial assessment.

In this guide, we’ll compare our range of teeth straightening techniques, from fixed braces to removable aligners, while discussing the benefits of each.

Fixed Braces

Traditional fixed braces include brackets attached to the front of your teeth and a wire running through the brackets. This wire is held in position with rubber bands that wrap around the brackets. Tension along the wire pulls your teeth gradually into a more favourable position.

Fixed braces need adjusting periodically to progress the treatment. This involves tightening the wire to move your teeth to their end goal.

We use a fixed brace system called Six Month Smiles. As the name suggests, this fast-acting treatment straightens your teeth in half a year by focusing on the most visible teeth at the front of your mouth.

This is great if:

  • You have mild crowding, gaps, or crooked teeth
  • You want a short treatment ahead of an important life event

Damon Braces

Damon braces are similar to traditional braces in many respects. However, instead of using rubber bands to hold the wire in place, the brackets have a locking mechanism. This makes treatment more efficient and comfortable while making adjustments more comfortable.

Treatment lengths vary based on the severity of your alignment issues and can range from 6 – 24 months.

This treatment is perfect for you if:

  • You have a complex malocclusion
  • You want a less noticeable version of traditional braces

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are very similar to traditional braces, but instead of being attached to the fronts of your teeth, they are on the backs. This keeps your braces completely hidden from view.

We can treat most orthodontic problems using lingual braces, and depending on the severity of your malocclusion, treatments range from 6 to 24 months.

Choose lingual braces if:

  • You want a completely discreet treatment
  • You have a comp[lex malocclusion

Invisalign

Unlike fixed braces, Invisalign is completely removable. Much loved worldwide, Invisalign is a popular clear aligner system. During your treatment, you’ll wear your aligners for 22 hours each day, taking them out to eat, drink, and clean your teeth.  Every two weeks, we’ll give you a new aligner. Each new aligner moves your teeth slightly closer to the perfect position.

Treatment lengths using Invisalign range from 2-24 months depending on your alignment needs.

Invisalign is a great option if:

  • You want a subtle treatment
  • You want the most comfortable treatment
  • You don’t want in-clinic adjustments
  • You want a removable appliance
  • You have a mild to moderate malocclusion

Smilelign

Smilelign is an alternative clear aligner option. Like Invisalign, it is translucent and removable, and treatment involves replacing your aligner every two weeks.

Smilelign is a good option if:

  • You have a mild to moderate malocclusion
  • You would prefer a removable appliance
  • Discretion is important to you
  • You want a comfortable treatment

Inman Aligner

For fast-acting treatments, we also offer Inman aligners. These are metal aligners consisting of a dual action system with nickel-titanium springs powering two opposing aligner bows. One bow will push your teeth from the outside while the other pulls from the inside. The result is a speedy treatment, sometimes in a matter of weeks.

Inman aligners are perfect if:

  • You want to improve the position of your front teeth
  • You want a fast-acting treatment
  • You have a mild malocclusion
  • You want a removable appliance
