Although we offer several cosmetic treatments to perfect your smile, we know there’s more to helping you feel good than addressing your teeth and gums. You might have other areas of your face you’d like to change, but surgery is expensive and invasive.

Fortunately, it’s never been easier to fix facial imperfections. Creases, lines, and sunken skin can be easily perfected without scalpels or long recovery times. Best of all, you can receive these treatments conveniently here at The Dental Suite.

Some of the most popular non-surgical facial aesthetics treatments use anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. But how do these treatments work, and what can they fix?

Here are the answers to some of the most commonly-asked facial rejuvenation treatments.

What Exactly Is an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment?

Botulinum toxin is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes muscles. When injected in small doses, it reduces the appearance of wrinkles by preventing muscle contractions.

Although it has the word “toxin” in its name, it won’t cause harm when prescribed and administered by healthcare professionals.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances, typically made from hyaluronic acid, that are injected beneath the skin to restore volume, smooth lines, or enhance facial contours.

We offer four types of dermal fillers, including Restylane, Teosyal, Juvederm, and Radiesse.

What’s the Difference Between Anti Wrinkle Treatments and Dermal Fillers?

Anti-wrinkle treatments relax muscles to reduce wrinkles, while dermal fillers add volume to fill in lines and enhance facial features. This type of treatment is best for dynamic wrinkles, while fillers address static wrinkles and volume loss.

Are Anti-Wrinkle Treatments and Dermal Filler Treatments Safe?

Anti-wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers are generally considered safe when administered by qualified professionals. Both have been extensively studied and are approved for cosmetic use.

However, like any medical procedure, they carry some risks. Complications are rare when experienced practitioners perform treatments following proper protocols.

What Can Anti-Wrinkle Treatments Treat?

Injectable treatments are very versatile and can be tailored based on your specific needs. A few examples of areas we might use botox include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines between eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet around eyes
  • Neck bands
  • Gummy smiles
  • Jaw clenching (when injected into masseter muscles)

What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

As with anti-wrinkle treatments, dermal fillers offer a variety of potential benefits, and we can use them to meet your needs. Here are a few examples of the areas we can use fillers:

  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Marionette lines
  • Lip enhancement
  • Cheek augmentation
  • Under-eye hollows
  • Jawline contouring
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty

Can Anti-Wrinkle Treatments and Dermal Fillers Be Combined?

Yes, both treatments can be combined in a single treatment session. This approach, sometimes called a “liquid facelift,” allows us to address multiple concerns simultaneously.

For example, anti-wrinkle treatments might treat forehead lines, while fillers add volume to cheeks or smooth nasolabial folds. Combining treatments can provide more comprehensive rejuvenation results.

Who is a Good Candidate for These Treatments?

You are a good candidate for facial aesthetics treatments if you are aged 18 and over and in good overall health, have realistic expectations about results, are not pregnant or breastfeeding, are free from certain neuromuscular disorders (for Botox), and are not allergic to ingredients in the products.

How Soon Will I See Results After Treatment?

For anti-wrinkle treatments, initial effects may be noticeable within 24-48 hours, while full results typically appear within 7-14 days.

For dermal fillers, most treatments  provide immediate volumising effects, while full results, including integration with surrounding tissues, may take up to 2 weeks.

How Long Do the Results of Dermal Fillers and Anti-Wrinkle Treatments Last?

The results of anti-wrinkle treatments typically last 3-6 months. Dermal fillers can last anywhere from 6-18 months, depending on the type of filler and area treated.

The good news is that we can top up your treatment at a later date. Top-up treatments are brief and simple. Many people choose to receive additional treatments while on a break from work.

How Often Should I Get Anti-Wrinkle Treatments or Dermal Filler Treatments?

Initially, you can top up your anti-wrinkle treatment every three to four months. This may extend to six months as muscles become conditioned.

For dermal filler, the frequency of top-up treatments will vary depending on the type of filler and area treated. Generally, you can top-up your treatment every 6-18 months. However, some longer-lasting fillers may only require touch-ups after 18-24 months.

Do Facial Aesthetics Treatments Hurt?

Non-surgical facial aesthetics are simple and effective. They deliver many of the same benefits as surgical treatments without pain or discomfort.

You may experience slight swelling or bruising afterwards, which usually subsides within a few days.
