As part of your dental examinations, we perform a comprehensive assessment of the overall health of your mouth,

including : – teeth

- gums

-soft tissues, ie tongue, palate, floor of mouth, cheeks

Afraid of the Dentist

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Many people find going to the dentist a very frightening experience. For some people, their fear even prevents them from going for check-ups.

Fear of the dentist can be caused by many things. For example, a previous bad experience, being embarrassed about your teeth, have a feeling of loss of control, have a fear of injections orneedles, worry that the anaesthetic won’t work properly or have concerns about unnecessary treatment.

At the Dental Suite, we have been treating nervous patients for many years and have a wealth of experience in this field.  We take a gentle approach to dentistry and we will try to understand your fears and work with you to make your visit as stress-free as possible. We explain everything to you at your consultation appointment to ensure you fully understand what treatment you require. Before you start any treatment,we ensure that you feel in control and you can signal, such as by raising your hand, if you wish to have a break and you need to stop for a few moments. You may feel better if you bring a friend or relative to the practice for support and reassurance.

Dental techniques have improved dramatically over the last few years, meaning that dental treatment can often be completely painless. For example, anaesthetic gels can be applied to the gum so that you don’t even feel any injections.

If your fear is very strong, there are other approaches that may help such as relaxation techniques, or sedation.

Bad Breath

Monday, June 28th, 2010

If you suffer from bad breath (halitosis), you should know that you are not alone. Bad breath is a very
common problem and there are many different causes.
Bad breath can be caused by bacteria that accumulate on the back of the tongue and between the teeth. Regular brushing and
flossing help to get rid of food particles, and can also help to prevent bleeding gums. Regular examinations will allow our dentist to identify any areas where plaque is caught between your teeth and our  hygienist will also show you the best way
to clean your teeth, gums and tongue.

We recommend different hygiene programmes to our patients depending on their needs, patient who tend to accumulate plaque more easily see our hygienist every 3 months, whilst those who have less build up come every 6 months.

We are also proud to be able to provide the latest technologies to our patients as we use the best products on the market to achieve optimal results

oral cancer screening

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

You probably don’t even realise it, but your regular dental examination involves  more than just your teeth
and gums. At the Dental Suite, our dentist at every check up also examine the oral soft tissues (lips, tongue, floor of mouth, cheeks,
roof of mouth and throat) for signs of disease, and also oral ancer. Oral cancer occurs nearly as frequently as cervical cancer, although it causes more deaths. Early detection is essential to increase the chances of a complete cure; if the cancer is caught early enough, it can be treated and cured very simply.
If you smoke or drink alcohol you are at higher risk of developiong oral cancer, with the risks heavily
increasing if you do both. Chewing tobacco is also a major risk factor for developing oral cancer.

In addition to attending your dentist for regular checks, you can greatly reduce your own risk of developing
oral cancer by stopping smoking and reducing your alcohol intake. If you require any advise on smoking cessation or if you have any concerns about your risk of developing oral cancer, please contact us for further help and advice.

why do I need an x-ray at the dentist?

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

X-rays allow the dentist to see any problems with your teeth before they become physically visible, such as tooth decay or possible infections, thus enabling the dentist to treat any underlying problems before they develop any further, saving both time and
money. At the Dental Suite,  we take x-ray every two years on patients at low risk of decay while more frequent x-rays are required for those who have high risk of decay. We are happy to be able to provide digital radiography to our patients as these not only give us high quality x-rays but also reduce radiation dosages by 80%!

We also have a ct scanner to allow precise and accurate treatment planning for our implant work and a lateral ceph machine to allow us to treatment plan accurately our orthodontic cases
In children, x-rays allow the dentist to see when and where second teeth will grow through. The same
applies to adults and their wisdom teeth.

At the Dental Suite we pride ourselves in using the latest technology to provide the best dental care for our patients
