Now, we are delighted to add Immediate implants to our ever-growing repertoire of advanced cosmetic dental treatments.
The Original Dental Implant
Many of us will know the well-founded use of dental implants and the impact they have had in dentistry. Acting as the root portion of missing teeth, they are fine titanium rods that are fitted into pre-drilled sockets in the jawbone. Once settled, a new restorative tooth can be attached, creating a functional and better aesthetic.
What is Immediate implants?
Immediate implants are implants that are fitted immediately after a tooth has been extracted. Normally, implants are fixed and then left to heal for a period of at least six weeks, before a permanent restoration is then attached. Once the implant has healed, the permanent restoration is fixed and the restoration complete. With Immediate implants, however, the implant is placed on the same day the tooth is extracted.
What are the advantages of Immediate implants?
The major advantage for the patient is that they do not have to wait a long time for their new tooth. They also avoid having to wear a temporary restoration and will need to attend fewer dental appointments, which may be comforting for patients who feel anxious about going to the dentist.
Does Immediate implants have any disadvantages?
There is evidence to suggest that the success rate of Immediate implants are not as guaranteed as with normal implants. However, the team at The Dental Suite will only advise patients who they believe are suitable to have the treatment, in order to ensure the ratio of success is maximised.
What are the benefits of Immediate implants?
Dental implants have numerous benefits: they look like natural teeth and function in the same way; they enable you to speak clearly and chew normally; and they are considered the most effective long-term treatment for missing teeth. What this means is that you will have a natural looking and healthy smile, and if you look after your implant well, it should last for many years to come.
Dental implants also help to reduce bone loss and do not require special cleaning, as can be necessary with other treatments like bridges and dentures. As a result, the risk of oral health problems, such as gum disease and decay, are greatly reduced.
Are Immediate implants suitable for everyone?
Immediate implants are suitable for the majority of people, though there are some exceptions. If you smoke, drink heavily, have untreated oral health problems or you suffer from a condition which compromises your immune system, then you may be advised against having dental implants. Our resident dentist will be able to determine your appropriateness for treatment during an initial consultation.
