We live in the age of selfies and social media when there’s more pressure than ever to show your best side at all times.

Feeling less than confident about how you look on the outside can affect how you feel on the inside by draining self-confidence and damaging self-esteem.

This feeling will be all-too-familiar to those living with a ‘gummy smile – high, receding or uneven gums which show when you laugh or grin.

"I enjoy coming to the dentist"
"Everybody here is lovely"

A gum lift – also known as gum contouring – is a procedure which reshapes the gums to give them a more even appearance. It’s a simple, painless treatment which improves the gums’ aesthetics if they are uneven, high or receding.

Carried out under local anaesthetic, contouring works its magic in less than an hour, using a safe laser to give you just the right amount of gum on show.

We offer two types of gum contouring.

Laser Gum Contouring

The laser gum contouring procedure directs a laser at the gum tissue to reshape, recontour and re-seal tissue. The treatment also closes pockets between tooth and gum, which collect bacteria and contribute to gum disease and other problems. It is quicker and more comfortable than surgical gum contouring, with much shorter recovery time.

Surgical Gum Contouring

Instead of using a laser to do the hard work, surgical gum contouring employs a traditional scalpel. Gums are later re-sealed using specialist dental sutures.

Looking After Yourself After Treatment

Gum contouring is a quick and relatively painless procedure. It usually takes from 20 minutes to an hour and is carried out under local anaesthetic. For up to a week afterwards, you may experience some mild soreness as the gums heal. Any discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relief medication.
