Sunday, April 12th, 2009WE WOULD LIKE TO WISH YOU ALL A LOVELY EASTER! HOPE YOU ARE ALL ENJOYING THE EASTER HOLIDAYS!
This Easter, at the Dental Suite in Loughborough, Kal and I thought of a new way of promoting good oral health. We have been giving out Easter eggs containing toothbrush and toothpaste. We wanted to promote the message that a chocolate treat is allowed if you follow the following advice:
1- brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day
2- visit the dentist and hygienist regularly
3- cut down the frequency of sweet treats
4- have a sweet treat only at meal times
This idea was very popular among patients, children and adults alike and got a lot of interest from the local media

why do dentists take xrays?
Saturday, March 14th, 2009Sometimes new patients ask us why they need an x-ray.
At our practice in the East Midlands, we have two types of x-ray machines. One machine gives a full view of the whole mouth and jaws, while the other gives us a more detailed view of just a few teeth at a time.
X-rays are really important because:
- we can assess the presence of decay
-we can assess presence of infections
- we can assess presence or abscence of teeth in the growing child
- we can assess the gum health and bone levels
- we can assess the position of the implants placed by our surgeon
All of these factors are really important in treatment planning, so that we can ascertain that teeth and gums are healthy prior to commencing cosmetic or orthodontic treatment. X-rays helps us diagnosing dental problems that cause pain as we can idenity sources of infection.
X-rays are taken by us only when clinically necessary.

Mouth Cancer Awareness Walk
Tuesday, June 10th, 2008The Dental Suite Team is taking part in a sponsored walk to raise awareness on oral cancer. The walk is on 20th September 2008 in Hyde Park, London.
The risk of developing mouth cancer is linked with alcohol and cigarette consumption. It has been shown that a good healthy diet can help prevent cancer.
Mouth cancer is rare, but unfortunately the survival rates are low as it’s often detected when it’s too late. One of the main reasons why it is essential to go to your dentist regularly is to have your mouth checked regularly so that if there is anything abnormal and sinister (usually rare) this is detected early.
