The importance of regular check ups with Leicester dentist and cleans with hygienist

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

At the Dental Suite, we recommend you have regular check ups with the dentist and cleans with the hygienist for the following reasons:

1-  we can catch problems like decay or gum problems early, meaning that less invasive treatments may be required

2- we can screen your mouth for conditions such as oral cancer, thrush and other skin conditions

3- we can let you know whether you need to modify your toothbrushing technique if you are missing certain areas

4- we can give you diet advice if you are starting to suffer from acid erosion

5- we can help you stop smoking

Prevention is always better than cure.

There are people who only attend the dentist when they are in absolute agony, but this often means that it may be too late to save a tooth or the treatment may be more complex and it would have been easier and quicker to treat had the patient attended more regularly.

If you are due for a check up, please call us on 01509 231144 or 0116 2554373.

Why do I need a dental check up?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Regular dental check ups are very important as they allow us to monitor the health of your mouth and help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. This can mean less fillings, less likelihood of toothache, more attractive teeth and a greater chance of keeping your own teeth for life.

As part of your dental examinations, we perform a comprehensive assessment of the overall health of your mouth,

including : – teeth

- gums

-soft tissues, ie tongue, palate, floor of mouth, cheeks

We are trying to keep you as healthy as possible so that you reduce the risk of future problems and treatment, and look and feel great.

If you want to book for a check up call us on 01509 231144 or 0116 2554373

oral cancer screening

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

You probably don’t even realise it, but your regular dental examination involves  more than just your teeth
and gums. At the Dental Suite, our dentist at every check up also examine the oral soft tissues (lips, tongue, floor of mouth, cheeks,
roof of mouth and throat) for signs of disease, and also oral ancer. Oral cancer occurs nearly as frequently as cervical cancer, although it causes more deaths. Early detection is essential to increase the chances of a complete cure; if the cancer is caught early enough, it can be treated and cured very simply.
If you smoke or drink alcohol you are at higher risk of developiong oral cancer, with the risks heavily
increasing if you do both. Chewing tobacco is also a major risk factor for developing oral cancer.

In addition to attending your dentist for regular checks, you can greatly reduce your own risk of developing
oral cancer by stopping smoking and reducing your alcohol intake. If you require any advise on smoking cessation or if you have any concerns about your risk of developing oral cancer, please contact us for further help and advice.

Mouth Cancer Awareness Walk

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

The Dental Suite Team is taking part in a sponsored walk to raise awareness on oral cancer. The walk is on 20th September 2008 in Hyde Park, London.

The risk of developing mouth cancer is linked with alcohol and cigarette consumption. It has been shown that a good healthy diet can help prevent cancer.

Mouth cancer is rare, but unfortunately the survival rates are low as it’s often detected when it’s too late. One of the main reasons why it is essential to go to your dentist regularly is to have your mouth checked regularly so that if there is anything abnormal and sinister (usually rare) this is detected early.

We have already started fundraising. If you wish to donate money to this charity you can do so either at the practice or online on www.justgiving.com/thedentalsuite
