Single Dental Implant

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

The general public is becoming more and more aware about the great advantages of dental implants in replacing missing teeth. We see many patients from local areas, such as Birstall, Thurmaston, Sileby and from further away areas such as Northampton or Peterborough, coming to us asking for dental implants.

We recently saw this patient who had a single dental implant to replace a missing teeth. She did not want a plate and did not want a bridge as did not want to have her healthy adjacent teeth cut down.  An Astra Implant was used and it was restored with a high quality porcelain bonded to gold crown.

Demi Moore’s missing tooth

Monday, May 25th, 2009

I recently came across this photo that Demi Moore put on her Twitter page , http://twitpic.com/5pcay

Demi is lying on her dentist’s chair waiting to have her upper right crown to be replaced. Not all celebrities will  show their imperfections, but it is great to see that Demi, like all of us as dental problems.

There are ways of replacing missing teeth and we can help fit all budgets and the options are a denture, a bridge or an implant.

Fast Braces

Monday, May 4th, 2009

The following patient attended our clinic after he suffered trauma to his front tooth. This trauma had caused the tooth to move inwards which affected the smile. After speaking about the options, he wished to straighten his smile by the “six month smiles” programme. Actually this treatment was completed in 5 MONTHS! The patient was fitted a fixed retainer to ensure teeth would not move after removal of the braces.

Teeth damaged by fizzy drinks and smoking

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

A recent tv programme on channel 4 highlighted the damage that fizzy drinks and smoking can do to teeth and gums.

FIZZY DRINKS

Not many people are aware that fizzy drinks, even diet ones, can seriously damage their teeth. A 500 ml bottle of coke has 50 spoonfuls of sugar!!! It is not just the sugar that damages the teeth, but also the acid present in the drinks. We are seeing more and more teenarges with worn teeth and this tooth wear is due to the amount of fizzy drinks they have.

SMOKING

It has been shown that smoking worsens gum health. There are so many harmful chemicals in cigarettes that can cause so much damage to our general health. The more specific damage to the teeth and gums are:

- staining

- gum disease

- impaired gum healing

- mouth cancer

For more advise on a healthy diet and on stopping smoking, come and see us and our wonderful hygienist, Rebecca.
