Gagging During Dental Treatment Leicester Loughborough Nottingham

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

The Gag reflex is a natural response as it is a contraction of the back of the throat to prevent choking. Touching the back of the roof of the mouth can instigate a gag response. Some people have a more sensitive gag response than others and may gag more easily. Because of this hypersensitive gag response, patients may avoid dental treatment for various reasons. Sometimes dental phobia can contribute to an increased gag reflex.

At the Dental Suite, we have a wealth of experience in treating Nervous Patients and in treating patients with a increased gag response. There are many ways that hyperactive gag response can be reduced: IV sedation, Hypnotherapy or acupuncture.

We always like to stress that avoiding the dentist turns minor problems in major problems, therefore if you are apprehensive about dental treatment , why not give us a call. We can help you!

The interviews highlighted Kal’s success in treating patients nervous about dental treatment. During the interviews Kal spoke about the importance of educating patients and explaining treatments to them in order to reduce fears of dental treatment. He discussed what methods he uses to make sure his patients feel comfortable and relaxed during treatment. Using distraction methods, such as large flat screen tvs, relaxing music, massage chair, dvd goggles have all proved to be very successful relaxation tools. For the very nervous, Kal offers IV sedation.

Dr Kalpesh Bohara on BBC radio Leicester

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

BBC radio Leicester asked Kal to come in for an interview on Wednesday 5th November to talk about cosmetic dentistry.

The radio presenter Rupal asked Kal questions on different types of cosmetic dentistry such as:

- what happens during a cosmetic consultation?

- what are veneers etc

Kal highlighted the importance of having a healthy mouth prior to undergoing any form of cosmetic dentistry. Once the mouth is healthy, then cosmetic work can be started. He stressed that a good cosmetic dentist not only will have great skills himself but will be using an excellent dental lab and the best dental materials on the market.

Kal also highlighted that we treat a lot of very nervous patients and that they do have neglected mouths due to their fear of dentists. He explained how we have been  able to treat successfully all the anxious patients we see and we have given them great smiles to be proud of and show off.

Nervous Patients

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Everyday we meet new patients or speak to people who are absolutely terrified of the dentist.

These fears usually develop following a past bad experience at the dentist. Some people are so petrified of having dental treatment that avoid going to the dentists for decades.

Here at the Dental Suite, we have experience in treating anxious patients and have been doing so for over 20 years. Because we are so experienced, we getting patients from all over the country, from Loughborough, Leicester, Plymouth, Scotland.

The various techniques we use are:

- behaviour modification

-oral sedation

-IV sedation

We believe we can succesfully help some anxious patients beat their fears by treating them in a calm relaxing environment. Our team are very friendly and approachable and manage to make all our patients feel at ease.

Oral sedation and IV sedation are also great techniques to help nervous patients get through dental treatment. Sedation will make you more relaxed when being treated and you will not remember much about the treatment either.

Many of our patients who used to be petrified of the dentists have told us that they have managed to beat their fears since coming to the Dental Suite
