The benefits of Fluoride in Water

The British Dental Association has shown their support to introduce fluoridation in parts of England.

There is a vast amount of evidence demonstrating that fluoridation in the water supply is a very safe and effective method of reducing rate of decay in the population. Fluoride remineralises (ie strengthens) the enamel on the teeth and helps reduce the numbers of bad bacteria that stick on teeth.

An example of how beneficial water fluoridation is shown by Birmingham’s low rates of decay. Birmingham is a fluoridated city and the children there have half the rate of tooth decay than children in the non fluoridated city of Southampton.

High quality porcelain veneers

Due to programmes like Extreme Makeovers and 10 years younger, porcelain veneers are on high demand by our patients. We get patients coming from all over Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire asking for veneers.

Veneers are thin porcelain facets that are glued onto teeth to mask imperfections. They can hide uneven, crooked or chipped teeth and can also mask tooth discoulouration.

First dentist to offer Inman Aligner in Leicester

We are proud to offer our patients the newest technologies and treatments. Both Kal and I strive for excellence and are constantly attending courses all over the world to keep up to date and to be able to offer almost all types of treatments at our practice in Leicestershire.

We were proud to be the first ones to offer the Inman Aligner in Leicestershire. We have carried out many cases so far and have gained a wealth of experience with this type of treatment. Most of the cases carried out at our practice took an average of 3 and half months. The Inman Aligner is a great tool to straighten anterior teeth and it carries out these corrections within a few months.

Dr Kalpesh Bohara on ITV central news

Following the well-deserved win at the Dentistry awards as Best Young Dentist in the Midlands, Kal was asked to do interviews for the local media.

Kal appeared in the Leicester Mercury, in the Loughborough Echo and on ITV central news.

The interviews highlighted Kal’s success in treating patients nervous about dental treatment. During the interviews Kal spoke about the importance of educating patients and explaining treatments to them in order to reduce fears of dental treatment. He discussed what methods he uses to make sure his patients feel comfortable and relaxed during treatment. Using distraction methods, such as large flat screen tvs, relaxing music, massage chair, dvd goggles have all proved to be very successful relaxation tools. For the very nervous, Kal offers IV sedation.

Retainers

We see a lot of new patients wanting to straigthten their teeth. Many travel from nearby Leicester, Derby or Nottingham. Many others come all the way from Southamptom. A lot of these patients had braces when they were younger but the teeth relapsed into their original position few years later. This happens when retainers are not worn after finishing orthodontic treatment.

We tell all our patients wanting to have their teeth straightened that they have to wear retainers for the rest of their life if they want their teeth to stay straight.

The common questions we get are:

What type of retainers are there?

- removable retainers are clear plastic trays which are similar to the invisalign aligners.

-fixed retainers are a small wire bonded to the back to the back of the teeth

How long to I have to wear them for?

- we advise lifetime wear

why do I have to wear retainers?

during orthodontic treatment, new bone is deposited and the ligament around the teeth is remodelling. Retention allows to stabilise the position of the teeth while the bone matures and the ligament remodels.
